How to make a German cake
Baumkuchen
(baumkuchen means: baum = tree
Kuchen = cake
So tree cake for you but the real name is Baumkuchen)
Do you like German delishes? If you do, this is your cake!!!

Batter

First of all you need to prepare the oven. Put the oven on 350 °f.
Today I will tell you how to make a German cake.
First you need some time to make the cake, because it takes 3 hours to make.
Next you need a recipe to make the batter…

You need:
• 250 g butter or margarine
• 250 g sugar
• 1 pack Vanilla sugar
• 6 eggs
• 1-2 spoons rum(you don’t need that it is only for the taste)
• 250 g wheat flour
• 9 g baking powder

Method

To mix the ingredients together
You need:
• Bowl
• Mixer
• Spoons
• Cold Water bottle

You need to agitate the butter in the bowl until it’s foamy.
Now you add the sugar, vanilla sugar, 2 eggs and 4 egg yolks (and rum if you want to).
Then you mix the mixed flour with baking powder slowly in.
Now you take the 4 egg whites and whisk them till stiff.
After that you take the egg mixture and fold it in the batter.

Now you know how to make the batter and now I will tell you how to prepare the baking form (after that I tell you why you need spoon and a water bottle for the ingredients).

For preparing the baking form

You need:

• Baking form
• Pot
• A little bit of butter
• Kitchen brush
• Baking paper

Now you have to put the paper on the floor of the baking form and cut the edges off.
Next you take the butter and melt it in the pot and take the Brush to distribute the butter on the form.

Layers

Now I will teach you how to make the layers for my cake.
For the layers

You need:
• The mixed batter
• The spoon
• The cold water bottle
• Baking form

For the first layer you take about 2 spoons of the batter and fill them into the baking form and distribute the batter.
You need to put the spoon several times in cold water, because if you don’t, the batter will hang on the spoon.
Bake the first layer for about 12 minutes until its light brown.
You bake the remaining layers for about 5-7 minutes on bake and about 1-2 minutes on broil.
Now you can make about 10-15 layers the same way.
If you used and baked all the batter, the cake has to cool down.

Decoration

While you have the cake cool down you can prepare the decoration.
You can make a plain or a colored icing.

You need (for the plain icing):
• 175 g icing sugar
• 1 walnut big chunk butter
• 2-3 spoons hot water

You need (for the colored icing):
• The normal icing recipe
• Icing color
That’s a German icing but it is very good.
When the cake is cooled down you make the icing.

You have to stir the icing sugar with the melted butter and so much hot water that it is a viscous mixture and for the colorful one fill in the icing color.
Take the spoon and gently spread icing over the top of the cake out.
It is very easy but for the whole cake you need 3 hours in the kitchen.

For Glenns Birthday-Cake I used Chocolate-Pudding-Buttercream-Icing to ice the cake, then I covered the cake with Marzipan and after all I coated the cake with chocolate!
